Status: Permanent Full Time – Term Time
Location: Valley Campus, The Valley Way Gungahlin
Please note there may be occasions where you will be required to work at the Forde Campus.
Qualifications: Diploma in Library and Information Services or Certificate III or IV in Library and Information Services for equivalent.
Line Management: This position is responsible to the Teacher Librarians and Executive Director of Learning Operations and ultimately the Principal.
Duties
LIBRARY TECHNICIAN
Undertake cataloguing and classification procedures for new resources including:
- Search, verify, import and amend bibliographic records from SCIS and other online databases.
- Original cataloguing using DDC
- Maintain digital resources including ebooks and digital magazines.
- Download and import MARC records from database subscriptions.
- Oversee and maintain library systems and provide systems reports.
- Ensure the maintenance of the Senior School library collection including stocktaking and ordering
- Maintain the Senior School library space, including managing bookings, staff supervision and displays.
- Ensure data in the Library Management system is current and up to date
- Advise Library staff of new services and standards with regard to Library cataloguing.
- Respond to staff requests.
- Prepare resource lists as required.
- Foster industry involvement in order to stay abreast of industry standards relating to issues such as copyright, software, best practice etc.
- Maintain appropriate level of professional development.
GENERAL LIBRARY ASSISTANT
- Assist with the supervision of students in the Library
- Assist with circulation.
- Process and repair new and existing resources
- Assist with the circulation and storage of senior school textbooks
- Maintain a safe workplace environment.
- Other duties as directed by the Teacher Librarians/ English teachers
Skills & Knowledge Required
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with both adults and students.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Experience in maintaining a safe working environment.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain appropriate records.
- An understanding of relevant Work Health and Safety legislation and requirements in a school Library setting.
- Current Working with Vulnerable People Registration.
- Current first aid certificate or ability to gain the qualification.
- Willingness to undertake a range of duties as requested.
Terms and Conditions
The successful applicant will be employed under the Independent School ACT (Support and Operational Staff) Enterprise Agreement 2021.
