Status: Casual Seasonal Position
Position Location: Valley Campus, 4 The Valley Avenue, Gungahlin or Forde Campus, Corner Francis Forde Boulevard and Hurrell Street, Forde
Line Management: This position will be responsible in the first instance to the Head of Co-curricular and ultimately the Principal. They will also work collaboratively with the Head Coach, Sports Administration Team, teaching staff, parents and volunteers.
Burgmann Anglican School is an Early Childhood to Year 12 School with campuses located in Gungahlin and Forde.
The school prides itself on its innovative and creative approach to curriculum and education and its strong sense of community and pastoral care of the students and their families and the staff of the school. The school has a strong link with the Gungahlin Anglican Church which shares facilities and resources with the school.
Working arrangements / Position
Working hours and days One afternoon per week for training and attendance at games which will likely be on weekends (during season competition)
DUTIES
The role of a Co-curricular Sports Coach is to instruct students on fundamental skills and foster player development within a fun, inclusive and safe environment.
- Be responsible for the preparation, implementation and evaluation of training sessions suited to the needs of the individual students and/or teams
- Be able to provide a copy of a session plan to the Head Coach
- Arrive 15 minutes prior to training to ensure areas are ready for training and 30 minutes prior to games
- Ensure training areas and equipment are packed away at the end of each session
- Mark the roll at each session and ensure accurate records of student attendance are kept.
- Follow school procedures for supervising children before and after training and games
- Discuss any behavioural management issues with the Head Coach and Head of Co-curricular
- Complete an Incident Report in as soon as possible and inform the Head of Co-curricular
- Communication – In collaboration with the team manager update the team portal page
- Other duties as required
SELECTION CRITERIA
- A passion for leading and supporting sport
- Experience as a player or coach in the chosen sport
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with both adults and students
- A relevant qualification or coaching certificate in the sport would be advantageous
- First Aid certificate
- Working with Vulnerable People registration
