It is a co-educational Independent, Anglican School, that offers a tailored learning environment for children from six months through to Year 12, across two campuses. Burgmann is structured into four sub schools: Early Learning, Junior School (K-Y5), Middle School (Yr 6 – 8) and Senior School (Year 9-12).The Early Learning Centre, located on the Valley campus, provides for children aged 6 months to 3 years old. We have two Pre-Kindergarten programs, one located on each campus. These provide for children who are 4 years old, in their year before formal schooling.The school prides itself on its innovative and creative approach to curriculum and education and its strong sense of community and pastoral care of the students and their families and the staff of the school. The school has a strong link with the Gungahlin Anglican Church which shares facilities and resources with the school. The Early Learning programs are an important aspect of our school.Line Management: This position will report to the Director of Early Learning and ultimately the Principal. The appointee will be based in the Early Learning Centre and may be required to support Pre-Kindergarten at both campuses as needed.SCOPE OF ROLEThe focus of the Early Learning Assistant Director (Education and Practice) role is to inspire, lead, mentor and guide early childhood teachers and educators within the Early Learning Centre to provide children with high quality education and care programs designed to meet the individual and group needs of children in accordance with the National Quality Framework (NQF), Burgmann Anglican School Early Learning policies and procedures and other relevant regulatory and/or funding bodies.The Early Learning Assistant Director (Education and Practice) position:Encompasses the role of Educational Leader within the Early Learning Centre.Includes a 0.5 FTE teaching load within the Early Learning Centre, supporting programs and routines through a shared approach to achieving the best learning outcomes for children.Assists the Director of Early Learning to provide strong leadership across the Early Learning programs (Early Learning Centre and Pre-Kindergarten).Leads and guides the development and implementation of diverse, developmentally appropriate educational programs across a variety of Early Learning Centre environments.Provides ongoing support and assistance in all areas of daily operational requirements.Develops positive partnerships and relationships which support families and the Burgmann Anglican School community.Works collaboratively with the Early Learning Assistant Director (Care and Compliance).DUTIESActively lead the development and implementation of Burgmann Anglican School Early Learning Centre’s Quality Improvement Plan.Provide educational leadership within the Early Learning Centre.Build trusting professional relationships with teachers and educators through successful monitoring, mentoring and support, including appraisal and feedback processes.Support professional practice, including inducting new staff, engaging collaboratively with studio teams and guiding professional growth through reflective practice and professional learning.Provide leadership while working as a member of a cooperative team, encouraging educators working directly with children to actively contribute to the planning and implementation of the educational program.Provide professional development and guidance to educators on managing challenging behaviour so as to adhere to the UN convention of the rights of children.Collaborate with Early Childhood Teachers and educators within the Early Learning Centre to ensure learning documentation reflects children’s’ growth and development professionally, in line with expectations and philosophy.Work with educators to develop a clear picture of the child as a capable and competent learner, creating optimal relationships with children.Other duties as directed by the Director of Early Learning and/or Head of Junior School from time to time.Operate in a professional manner at all times. Selection CriteriaHigh level knowledge of the National Quality Framework and Standards and the Early Years Learning Framework V2.0 with a demonstrated commitment to the implementation of these processes.
