Position: Head of House and Senior School Teacher
Status: Permanent Position
Commencement Date: Term 1, 2025
Position Location: Valley Campus, 4 The Valley Avenue, Gungahlin
Line Management: This position will be responsible to the Head of Senior School and Deputy Principal (Wellbeing) and ultimately to the Principal.
Burgmann Anglican School is an Early Childhood to Year 12 School with campuses located at Gungahlin and Forde.
The school prides itself on its innovative and creative approach to curriculum and education and its strong sense of community and pastoral care of the students and their families and the staff of the school. The school has a strong link with the Gungahlin Anglican Church which shares facilities and resources with the school.
Terms
A Leadership Allowance (Level 2) and up to 0.3 FTE will be paid, commensurate with the responsibility of the position.
The seniority of the position of Head of House necessitates that the incumbent may be required to be present on the campus before and beyond the regular timetabled day and sometimes during non-term time. This position also has an after hours component.
Head of House duties
A Senior School Head of House is responsible for;
- the pastoral care and social emotional learning of Senior School students within their House group;
- the promotion of the Burgmann ethos and Christian values amongst Senior School students;
- proactively supporting the Head of Senior School and other colleagues in implementation of positive behaviour guidance and uniform standards;
- administrative tasks as delegated by the Head of Senior School and the Senior School Director of Wellbeing;
- coordination of wellbeing initiatives and special events within their House group;
- fostering House spirit through co-curricular opportunities, house competitions, activities and carnivals;
- referring Senior School students to school psychologists for counselling support;
Teaching Duties
- Use a broad range of teaching strategies to deliver quality programs that are inclusive of all students and are responsive to their learning strengths and needs
- Establish a rapport with students to create inclusive, supportive and cohesive learning environments
- Work collaboratively with colleagues
- Communicate with colleagues, students and parents in a respectful, effective and professional way
- Actively participate in the school’s co-curricular program, providing appropriate duty of care and supervision
- Participate in the pastoral care program and if required, teach a Pastoral Care class
- Actively participate in professional learning activities aligned with the school’s priorities
- Other duties as required
selection criteria
- A relevant teaching qualification and experience teaching to Senior School students
- A passion for effective teaching and learning
- An understanding of positive education
- Demonstrated capacity to differentiate the teaching program to address students’ strengths and varied academic needs
- Experience in the meaningful integration of digital technologies
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- An understanding and support of a Christian based education in an Anglican context
- A willingness to participate in the school’s co-curricular program
Salary, Terms and Conditions
The successful applicant will be employed under the Independent Schools ACT Standards Model (Teachers) Enterprise Agreement 2021.
