The school has a strong link with the Gungahlin Anglican Church, which shares facilities and resources with the school.SCOPE OF ROLE:The Head of Middle School is a member of the Burgmann Anglican School Executive with delegated responsibility for the effective leadership, operation and management of the Middle School (Years 6, 7 and 8).ROLE RESPONSIBILITYWorking Relationships:Reporting to the Principal, the Head of Middle School is an integral part of the School Executive, working in partnership to ensure a whole school approach. They work collaboratively with the Deputy Principals, who provide leadership support. The position directly supervises the Middle School Leadership team and, through them, the Middle School teachers, and LSAs.Focus of Role:The Head of Middle School is responsible for facilitating the Mission and Strategic Vision of the school, with a particular focus on ensuring best practice in meeting the needs of young adolescent learners by embracing a middle schooling approach.duties and Responsibilities:The Head of Middle School has the following roles:Lead, manage and develop the Middle School to ensure that the unique needs of Middle School students are central to the practices and policies that are implemented.Lead the development of the School’s values and the achievement of its aims to maximise the potential and scholarship of each student and to support the full development of each student, as outlined in our philosophy.Ensure pastoral care and wellbeing of each Middle School student, with close connection to the whole school wellbeing progressions and philosophy, ensuring robust responsive and proactive programs and procedures.Liaise with the leadership team of Learning and Curriculum to influence and implement a dynamic curriculum that engages Middle School students, and is delivered with best-practice pedagogy.Build and nurture a strong school culture based on the Burgmann norms and values.Staying abreast of current developments in Middle Schooling, to strategically plan for and implement improvements in structures, policies, pedagogy and curriculum.Ensuring that diverse and complex student needs are met, supporting the development and application of Personalised Plans.Leading and monitoring behaviour support strategies in collaboration with the Deputy Principal and other Heads of Schools to ensure positive and safe relationships and passage for all students.Communicating effectively with staff, parents and students, including supporting opportunities for concerns to be raised and actioned.Promoting Middle schooling and Burgmann Anglican School.Playing a role in the appointment, induction, professional development, growth and appraisal of teaching staff.Monitoring the reporting process for Middle School students, ensuring feedback promotes student growth.Creating and supporting student leadership development, positions and programs.Celebrating student achievements.Supporting the spiritual life of the School.Working collaboratively with the other Heads of Schools to facilitate smooth transitions between schools and the commencement of new students.
